Evaluation Q3
What have you learned from audience research?
Audience feedback was a crucial part of my video making
process, I showed my video to an audience then used my iphone to record
responses and also got a response sheet filled out to help me improve upon my
mistakes, shown below is the rough cut of the music video:
This is was my response sheet after the first preliminary viewing:
From this sheet i learnt that the strong points were that people enjoyed the lyrics appearing on the screen and being visual as it goes along with the chorus, but a common fault was the same location was used for verse one and verse two, so for this we re filmed it to 3 different locations, so to a stairwell, small grasss area and a path way in which the music video ends. furthermore many felt that the lip syncing was a bit out of sync so that had to be fixed also more video transitions were needed to make the video much better.
Using my iphone, i downloaded the soundcloud application to record the reaction to my first rough cut to the music video:

This was our final music video and these were the final responds, the questions that were asked were;
This was our final music video and these were the final responds, the questions that were asked were;
- What are your first impressions of the new video?
- What do you like about the music video?
- If you could change the video what would you change?
- Do you think it could be a commercial video?
Evaluation Q4
Me cleaning out the song removing the swear words, the 3 "shits" that are in the song, i removed them as i thought they would not be appropriate in a music video.

Rap music videos stereotypically consist of provocative women to gain attention of the male audience which is known as male gaze, this technique is mainly used to gain the male viewership this is similar to my video as our main demographic is young males and females. Money is also a constant feature in music videos along with expensive cars to enhance the image of the main artist and show the male figure as dominant. These conventions are the stereotypically norm of commercial music videos which seem to be very successful as they work. Other features consist of violence and the gang culture which are also represented in young artist’s music videos to show their strength and power which they think they have.
However in our own music production we have decided to opt out of shooting a video of the norm, we have done this to not just adhere to stereotypical conventions. Our video consists of two performers “St” our artist and one girl. The main theme of the video was that the artist and the girl were enjoying their relationship and they were going to continue somehow someway which was also the title of the song. The video was primarily a performance video with a variety of shots of our artist on his own performing along with rapping to the girl and the lyrics indicate things and relate if he was talking to his girlfriend. This goes against the norm of the typical rap video where the female is quite provocative and also the video consists of lying and cheating. Our artist also shows to care and that he wants to work it out this is unstereeotypical as many rappers objectify women and treat females as sex objects. The female in our video has not been degraded or objectified to please male viewers as she does not adhere to the stereotypical conventions of being promiscuous. Our artist portrays a stereotypical representation of a young rapper this includes things such as;
his baseball cap
his watch
Polo Ralph Loren T-shirt
Trainers
which Indicate similar conventions from a rap video.
The video contains a love theme incorporated, although we did not want to represent the female as provocative she can be seen as a form of eye candy as she looks quite attractive and may draw in male audience, as there is still an element of female gaze.
Similar shots used within our music video;
- Medium shot
- Close up
- Pan
- Two shot
Throughout our music video I believe our male artist stayed the most dominant as he was centre of many of the shots and was represented by taking charge and showing dominance through the hand gestures and also the movements he makes. This is typical representation as women are normally portrayed as inferior while the male artist is shown as dominant which in our video is also the case.
Our video can be classed as rnb/rap as it also contains rnb conventions with the use of the love theme which has been incorporated within our video.

Production Log
19/09/11: we have found our artist who is dante pommels, with his artist name as "ST", he is an unsigned artist with a few songs and music videos and is more than happy to feature in our music video and for us to use his song somehow someway. him as an artist seems to fit in perfectly in what we want from our music video to be produced as.
28/09/11: as a group we have started to discuss what we want from our music videos and if we want to adhere to the genre or not.
1/11/11: we today started to take pictures and even videos of our artist performing the song somehow someway.

22/02/12: team meeting, update on everyone's progress was discussed, we had a discussion on the ancillary texts on what we liked and what we didnt.
03/03/12: we re filmed our chorus at a local park with our artist and narishma, which is now our final chorus and looks very good.
How we chose our ancillary designs and text
During one of our team meetings we, compared our ancillary texts to create the best possible cd cover and back cover and so forth, we decided on the image of our artist looking of in the distance, we chose this image as we has got inspiration from a k koke album cover, k koke is an artist similarly to our own, we thought it would be appropriate and also very effective. The next point that needed to be discussed was the fonts, as we could not find a suitable font that looked effective we decided to use google to find a font from "dafont.com", we decide on the font as it looked very good and suitable, i desgnnied my cd cover as our artist behind a graffiti back wall but other members in the group wanted a shot of london in the background which after some discussion became the most suitable option to take.
For our poster, we all agreed on a landscape poster as it would very nice and eye pleasing, we wanted the artist to be the main focal point, as kelvin was away for one of the days me raisa and samee made a decision of what text we wanted and the sizing as we were running on a time constraint. we all felt the need of the quotes on the poster as it seemed a very typical thing to do which also makes it look very professional, one thing we wanted to make sure was that the identity of the artist was there hence the big wembley sign.

This is our back cover to our cd cover, the cd cover has the same theme continuation from the front cover which is the cloudy effect which seems to to work, along with our artist in the background who is faded and looking up towards his name in bold which stands out effectively, with the main song in bold "somehow someway", along with the barcode and the small writing, it makes it look much more authentic and realistic, the artist still upholds his identity of London as there is the picture of the London eye. The connotations of the artist is that he is looking up to something greater which is his name.

This is our final Poster and it consists of our main artist St in the foreground who is glowing which represents that he is the pinnacle point of the poster and that the artist is the main image and the most important to the poster which enables him to stand out and look in control and have authority. The body language of our artist shows that St is looking upwards but also in a strong bold stance with his hands interlinking, with the slight use of bling with the ring, to adhere to the normal stereotypical view of a rapper. On the right hand side of the poster we see St's upbringing and what relates to him as a artist so the wembley sign to show his roots also the london tube map which shows he is from london and the graffiti to also adhere to the area where he grew up and the struggles he has face. Below that in the bottom righ hand corner we have the artist's name is bold so the audience know who our artist is alson with a line from the song which represents St's rise to fame and how it has changed, now that his girlfirend is nbot the only wants to know him and be with him. on the left hand side of the poster we habve our CD cover to show the audience what the CD cover looks like and what it looks like when they go to purchase the CD cover. Another stereotypical feature is the use of quotes from various magazines and people, which rises the profile of the artist which is crucial in attracting a new audience as they are more likely to listen to well know sources that St is an amazing artist with good music. we tried to portray St as a dominant figure and for him to fit in to the culture of rap also the uniqueness of our artist.

This is our cd cover design, it illustrates our artist 'St' looking across London is a manner in which looks like he is in control and is dominant which is what we want our artist to portray, this theme is continued through the text where the font looks bold and strong which reprents the artist as over powering.Our song is from the rap genre, and from the cd cover immediatley this is recgonisable due to the copy, the foreground and also the background. The use of parental advisory logo illustrates to the audience that our artist uses expletives within his songs which suggests that he adheres to the stereotypical norm of a young rapper. The use of the cloudy image gives off the image of the artist being a bit of a mystery. our inspiration came from the k koke album cover which is illustrated below:
